No Need for Alarm: 14 Common Abnormalities Found in Check-ups

To grasp one’s health status, detect diseases and health risks early, and more and more people choose regular health check-ups. When having a physical examination, everyone is mentally prepared to “move forward” with the attitude of early detection and intervention. However, when they receive their medical reports and see various arrows and small nodules, they may fall into confusion, and even increase anxiety and worries.

In fact, most nodules are harmless to the body, and not all abnormalities represent diseases. At this time, learning to distinguish is very important~

Today, we have organized for you common, but not too worrying abnormal indicators. It is recommended to collect and forward to family and friends! Next time you have a physical examination, you will be well-prepared~

Why many abnormal indicators,

do not need to worry too much?

In the physical examination report, the laboratory items will be marked with the corresponding normal reference value range according to different testing methods, the further away from the reference range, the more attention it needs to be paid. The internal environment and various systems of the human body are in a state of dynamic balance, when a slight abnormality occurs, the body returns to normal through self-regulation, and the dynamic observation of changes is sufficient. When significant abnormalities occur or are accompanied by symptoms, a clear diagnosis and treatment are needed.

Abdominal ultrasound, lung CT, ECG and other examination items, some changes are physiological or manifestations after disease healing, harmless to the body, and generally do not progress.

The following abnormal indicators,

do not need to worry too much

Mild abnormalities in a single item of a complete blood count

When asingle item in a complete blood count shows a mild abnormality, and there are no obvious symptoms,re-examination after 2-4 weeks, if the abnormality persists, seek medical consultation.

For example:

The normal range of white blood cell count is 3.5X109/L to 9.5X109/L. When the white blood cell count slightly decreases, such as 3.1X109/L, and there are no symptoms, re-examine after 2-4 weeks.

If multiple items are problematic at the same time, or a single item result is significantly abnormal, it is recommended to schedule a report interpretation or internal medicine consultation.

2

Isolated urinary bilirubin or urobilinogen abnormalities

Isolated urinary bilirubin or urobilinogen abnormalities, normal blood routine, liver function, and abdominal ultrasound, no clinical symptoms(such as no upper abdominal pain, loss of appetite, fatigue, iris jaundice, etc.),no treatment is needed.

3

Urine vitamin C positivity

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin, when there is an excess in the body, it will be excreted by the kidneys. The purpose of the test is to analyze and judge comprehensively by the expression of vitamin C in combination with other indicators.Isolated abnormalities have no clear clinical significance, no treatment is needed.

4

Decreased alanine aminotransferase or aspartate aminotransferase

Aminotransferases are one of the indicators for assessing liver damage, elevation suggests the presence of liver damage, it is recommended to schedule an internal medicine report interpretation or internal medicine visit. Whiledecrease has no clinical significance, no treatment is needed.

5

Thyroid nodule
(TI-RADS classification 1 and 2)

Thyroid nodule TI-RADS classification is a comprehensive score based on the nodule conditions seen under ultrasound.

Among them
Thyroid nodule TI-RADS:1 and 2(including TI-RADS:1 and 2 thyroid cysts),considered benign changes, no treatment is needed.

If Thyroid nodule TI-RADS:3, 4, 5need to followdoctor’s advice for follow-up or further diagnosis.

If your thyroid ultrasound report does not classify the nodule, need outpatient consultation, or you can refer to Distinct Health’s previous popular science for classification.

If the breast nodule BI-RADS classification3, 4, 5 needs doctor’s advice for follow-up or further diagnosis.

Benign lesion, may be asymptomatic for a long time or lifelong, usually no treatment is needed.

If there are symptoms of urinary difficulty, frequency, urgency and other urinary discomfort, make an appointment with the urology department in time to consult whether it is related to the cyst.

Simple liver cyst

Benign lesion, may be asymptomatic for a long time or lifelong, usually no treatment is needed.

Liver cysts with a diameter > 4cm may be related to abdominal pain, bloating, loss of appetite, etc., if there are the above situations, it is recommended to make an appointment with the internal medicine report interpretation to understand the follow-up or treatment plan.

10

Simple renal cyst

Renal cysts are divided into simple renal cysts and complex renal cysts. Among them,
simple renal cysts are benign changes, may be asymptomatic for a long time or lifelong, usually no treatment is needed.

If the classification of renal cysts is not clear, it is recommended to make an appointment with the internal medicine report interpretation for further understanding.

Cysts with a diameter > 4cm may have symptoms(such as back pain, bloating, etc.), it is recommended to consult the urology department or make an appointment with the internal medicine report interpretation for follow-up or treatment plan.

11

Small hepatic hemangiomas

If discovered for the first time, it is recommended to further examine and confirm the diagnosis;

If the diagnosis of hemangioma is clear, and the diameter is < 5cm, usually no treatment is needed.

Hemangiomas with a diameter > 5cm need monitoring and follow-up, it is recommended to make an appointment with the internal medicine report interpretation or hepatobiliary surgery to understand the treatment or follow-up plan.

12

Small gallbladder polyps

Polyps ≤ 5mm are usually benign,no special treatment is generally needed, just re-examine after 1 year.

When polyps are larger, such as 6-9mm, need re-examination after half a year.

When polyps > 10mm or symptoms appear, it is recommended to make an appointment for report interpretation or hepatobiliary surgery to clarify the treatment or follow-up plan.

When the gallbladder wall near the polyp is locally thickened, even if the polyp is within 6mm, it is also recommended to re-examine after half a year.

13

Sinus arrhythmia

Sinus arrhythmia is a common physiological abnormality, no treatment is needed.
